Year 10 travelled to Cannock tonight to take on Cardinal Griffin in the County Cup.  The boys did themselves proud and lost a closely contested game which ended 3-2.  Cardinal fielded 4 academy players from Wolves, Aston Villa, Port Vale and Stoke City - to keep the game so close is a credit to our boys.

T C-Walters was again the star man for Moorside, bagging 2 excellent goals. O Marsh in goal, also had a superb game.

A big well done to Year 9 and 10 netball teams.  Year 9 won all of their games with the prolific Daisy A scoring 12 goals!
Year 10 won 2 of their 3 games and were unfortunate not to also complete a clean sweep. Hot shot Darci J scored six for the mighty Moorside.
Well done girls, you all conducted yourselves brilliantly!

We travelled to Endon last night for the next netball tournament. It was the second round for the year 9's and the first for year 11.

The Year 9 team once again one 5 matches and drew the final game with Painsely (3-3 again!). However, having checked the results we are currently 10 goals ahead on goal difference which puts us in top position in the league. I was extremely impressed with the girls attitudes and behaviour 2 of our girls (Daisy and Isabel) were pushed over by the other team (due to their frustration at how well the girls were playing) but both girls handled it very maturely, getting up and wiping the dirt and blood off their hands and knees and went on to win the game!

The Year 11 team had 2 drop outs yesterday morning due to illness or other commitments, so we were down to 6 players, luckily for us India B offered to step in and help. They did amazingly well as several players had to play out of their normal position (we had defenders as shooters!) to try and fill in the gaps. They managed to win 4 game and only lost 2 which were both extremely close games. The girls were never disheartened and all worked extremely hard to manage to claim those for victories!

The Year 10's and 9's went to a netball tournament yesterday and both teams performed amazingly! There attitudes were outstanding and the effort they put in was incredible!
The results are as follows:

  • Beat Leek 13-0
  • Beat Painsley 8-0 (the Painsley coach thought we had older girls playing because they were that good!)
  • Beat Cheadle 6-0
  • Beat Biddulph 9-0

After the loss of ALewis as she had to attend her English National Schools swim training the last game was a tough match. The girls maintained a positive attitude to come from behind and draw the match 2-2 against Westwood.

  • Beat Cheadle 7-2
  • Beat Westood 3-0
  • Beat Biddulph 7-0

After some very questionable umpiring the girls managed to score on the final whistle to score against Painsley 2-2.

Well done!

The year 7 boys recorded another 5-1 victory this afternoon dispatching Sir Thomas Boughey in the county cup. After a really slow first 10 minutes the boys started to play their football and work themselves into the game. My instructions from the sideline were simple.. relax, keep the ball  and don’t panic in possession.

After only a few games they are really starting to look like they have the makings of being a good side. A really good bunch who want to work for each other, forming new friendships showing a winning mentality.  It really is brilliant to see and a pleasure to take them to play football.

Played 3 won 3.  Painsley at home on Wednesday.

On Monday, 12 March,  I attended a netball fixture with the Y7 & 8 netball teams.
They battled on through very windy, rainy and cold weather.  Due to weather there was not time to give out the results.

Year 7 came joint 1st, a massive improvement from the 5th place that they came before Christmas. The girls have worked really hard attending training every Wednesday so the result is well deserved.

Year 8 had a bit of a tough start to the tournament as due to a mix up with the results they were given 2nd position in the league instead of 1st which they had earned (as they have yet to lose a game). I was extremely proud of how the girls handled the situation, they were dignified and instead used the mistake as motivation to perform even better in the tournament. They did not disappoint achieving 1st place and they did not concede a goal ALL tournament.

A massive well done to all of the girls, so proud of everything they have achieved.

The Year 7 Moorside boys futsal team gave a great account of themselves this afternoon in the county finals but were left feeling a little frustrated after they destroyed the overall winners Wolstanton 3-0 in there final game of an exhaustive 9 games in two hours.

Moorside however, came up a little short on points overall and came fourth out of a group of ten finalists, a great effort non the less with five goals from HJ, including a great hatrick in the first game against Cannock, two from CD & OB and one goal each for LB and DT. Travis again made lots of fantastic saves keeping five clean sheets.

The boys should be very proud of their performances and I look forward to working with them again in the remaining league fixtures after half term.
